Programs developed in the community by the community to improve the availability and access to nutritious food. Contact information available in Appendix III.
Community Gardens
A complete list of community gardens in Vancouver can be found on the City Farmer website.
- My Own Backyard (MOBY) Community Garden – 45 plots – East of Commercial at 11th.
- Fraser Street Garden (Mount Pleasant) 8th Avenue and Fraser St. Gavin Ross 879-3676. Plot rentals are $10 per year. 50 plots. dig@vcn.bc.ca
- China Creek Garden – 30 plots – E.8th & Keith Streets – City-owned land. Top of Keith south of 8th Ave. at Broadway next to VCC King Edward Campus
- La Cosecha Garden – SW Corner of Clark and Broadway – City-owned land – Established in 2007
- South China Creek Park – 20 plots – N-E of skate bowl - In development
- City Hall - The City of Vancouver issues a garden permit on vacant residential land to the neighbouring property owner. (ie. permits to people wanting to garden vacant land next to their house) Unopened lane or street is also issued on that basis, therefore not available to the City at large. $25 plus GST per year.
Community Kitchens
- Aboriginal community kitchen @ Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House
- Semlin Gardens Residents Community Kitchen – For residents only
- Coast Housing Collective Kitchen - Only open to housing tenants. At Wilson Heights United Church
- Coast Families Program - Only open to tenants of the family program. At Wilson Heights United Church
- Re-Seasoning Community Kitchen - For people who have sustained a brain injury. At Wilson Heights United Church.
- First Nations Community Kitchen @ Queen Alexandra Elementary
- Community Kitchens Project – Kitchen leader training and other courses. Available at Community Kitchens Project located at the Vancouver Food Bank, outside of the catchment area.
